SPM is proud to be designing and hand making lifting belts for the ever growing kettle bell community
How are belts are constructed
The first layer: We start with British full grain saddle leather, this is not only the strongest leather but the most expensive, at 3.5 to 3.8 mm thick the fibers cross in a very tight pattern allowing the hide to flex with no stretch in length, this is why we are able to make a thinner belt than most on the market we have found.
The second layer: We now add a layer of tightly woven 18oz heavy duty cotton canvas, this help's with support, it is bonded to the leather over night. we can add two or three layers on request but the more we add the less flex in the small of the back.
Third layer: Again for quality we use an Italian nappa leather using the soft suede inside next to the skin. This has the added advantage of grip and as you heat up through your workout the belt will only grip more. Over time the belt will become more and more comfortable as it moulds to your shape
We hand dye all out leather and before the belt is constructed we rub in our own balm, this is made from all natural ingredients, Tallow, bee's wax, carnauba wax, refined lard, cod-live oil and citronella oil. The balm sinks deep into the leather over a few days giving the skin the water proof and flexibility needed, we never add protium bases balms as over time that brakes down the fibre structure of leather.
We sew the belt together with two rows of a none rot thread bonding all the layers together. We then add the belt loops and heavy copper rivets are set in place along with the welded buckle and buckle guard. And last we stamp the belt with our logo and if the customer request we add the name or nickname to the tail end.
